The lotus plant as such has a history dating back a long time. The lotus plant is a native of New Guinea, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, China, Iran, Australia and India. Although lotus is not commonly used in western medicine, recent research suggests that it does have medicinal properties. Scientific research on the various parts of the plant does suggest that it conditions skin. Almost every part of the plant has got some medicinal property. Whether it is the lotus root or the lotus leaf, you can find it being useful in the treatment of some ailment or the other. The plant is also known to its anti-bacterial activity and hence it’s increasing use in the treatment of sexually transmitted disease. Certain kinds of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis are also known to respond well to treatment with lotus.

 
The presence of anti-ageing enzymes in lotus has meant that there are scores of products which deal with skin care made up of lotus. The entire anti-ageing mechanism of lotus works through repair of proteins. The astringent properties of its flowers has seen them being used for treating conditions such as cholera and diarrhea in many Asian societies.

Lotus root has been used in Chinese medicine for over a long period of time now. Lotus roots are known to contain vitamins B and C along with iron which makes them good for the skin. Lotus skin care products are known to treat your skin to gentle yet luxurious pampering. This leaves the skin feeling smooth and beautiful. Lotus flower has been used as a part of traditional medicine in various parts of Asia for centuries together now. Apart from their benefits for skin they are also known for their relaxing and calming properties. This makes them ideally suited for use as part of a skin care regime.
